Position Type: Part-time leading into full time
Department: Distillery/ Cidery
Reports to: Head distiller
Gagetown Distilling & Cidery, located in the Village of Gagetown, is adding an Assistant distiller and cider maker to our small, creative and talented crew. We are hard workers and are looking for like minded individuals that are self-motivated, team player and eager to learn about the business of manufacturing alcohol, not just drinking it 😉
Essential Duties and Responsibilities to include, but not limited to:
- Milling, mashing, fermenting and distilling spirits, such as vodka, gin, rum, etc
- Pressing and pitching apples into cider
- Transferring of mash, fermentations, ciders, etc
- Distillation on both our 500L still and small barrel still
- Quality assurance and quality control responsibilities
- Attention to detail
- Handling chaos sometimes
- Guiding occasional tours of the facility
- Inventory management and record keeping
- Receipt and storage of raw ingredients
- Operation of a forklift
- Research and development of recipes
- Proofing, blending, barreling bottling and labelling of spirits and cider
- Cleaning and sanitation of everything- this is a significant task! It should be roughly 50% production and 50% cleaning.
Applicant Qualifications:
- Thirst for knowledge about the beverage industry
- Appreciation for puns
- Listening AND RETAINING skills are a must
- Attention to detail
- Ability to work as an individual or with others
- Willing to work possibly wonky hours (ex: long, weekends, nights on occasion) and sometimes with the public (ex: markets, tasting events, tours, shop)
- Demonstration of your interest in the industry
- 1-3 years of experience in alcohol manufacturing would put you in the qualifier pile immediately
- Active drivers licence
- Background in chemistry or lab process would be super helpful
- General experience in the beverage industry
- Be comfortable in your own weirdness so you can embrace all of us
Candidate should be physically fit (ability to lift and move at least 50lbs), be able to work flexible hours and do physical labour for extended periods- pressing apples, canning, bottling, etc.
